Taught by Sharon Em. Have you ever wanted to try stand-up comedy, but don’t know where to begin? Do you have trouble with public speaking & want to find a way to get past that? Do you have little or no comedic or performance experience whatsoever? Then this is the course for you! With this course we will guide you through a series of lessons in stand-up comedy writing & performance, culminating in a performance in front of a real-life audience. We will help you prepare your comedic writing with the stage in mind, as well as develop transferable writing techniques & communication skills that will be relevant in any profession. You will be taught skills which will not only be useful for your set, but for life in general. Our coaches are active experienced performers. They are well versed in the profession of stand-up comedy, so they know all you need to know on how to transition from being a beginner to taking it professional. They have the insight into what it takes, & what can help to make that jump. You’ll take 8 classes, each 2-hours, one per week. We teach both the basic theory & the practice of stand-up comedy, from the desk work to the stage. Our lessons include an interactive mix of lectures, performance practice, workshopping, writing exercises & feedback. Topics covered include: • Basic performance techniques. • Writing techniques as a way of life, capturing yourself at your best. • Self-discovery about how you are perceived by others & what you can do with this information. • Intensive editing, understanding exactly what is necessary and what is not. • Discovering your authentic self. • Exploring different styles & techniques outside your comfort zone to learn new things. • The details & importance of delivery both verbally & physically. • Dealing with the unexpected in an effortless way. Also included in this course: • A graduation show on March 8th! • A video of your performance at the graduation show. • A Whatsapp group for Q&A to share comedy resources with your peers. • A Google Drive folder filled with extensive humor theory bibliography & outlined notes of what we saw in each class. If we do not have enough sign-ups a week before class starts, we will have to cancel and refund those who have already signed up.
