Whether you’re totally new to performing, want to sharpen your public speaking, or just feel the itch to express yourself more boldly—this is your moment. In this 8-week beginner-friendly course, we’ll guide you step by step through the world of stand-up comedy. You’ll learn how to write and perform your own material, with plenty of support, laughter, and no pressure to "be funny on command." Spoiler: You already are. Led by active and experienced performers who know what it’s like to start from scratch, this course blends playful exercises, writing tools, and real stage practice. By the end, you’ll have a tight set—and the guts to perform it in front of a real audience at your very own graduation show! No experience needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to try. In Stand-Up Beginners, you will: · Learn how to turn your everyday experiences into comedy gold · Explore your unique voice and how others experience you on stage · Build confidence in front of a crowd through games, feedback, and performance practice · Develop your writing habit and sharpen your comedic perspective · Practice delivery techniques, timing, and mic presence · Try new styles and take creative risks in a fun, judgment-free space · Edit ruthlessly—cut the fluff, keep the punch · Learn to embrace the unexpected and find the funny in the moment · Perform a 5 minute set at your graduation show on July 3rd 2026! And get a video of your performance! Sharon Em is a comedian working in the Amsterdam English comedy scene as a performer, promoter and booker. She runs comedy nights all over NL under the name Weird Uncle Comedy. She is a keen storyteller unafraid to share personal anecdotes on stage and her style has been described as 'confessional comedy'.
