Ellie Connor is a Brit living in the Netherlands. She's been here for three and a half years, living in Amsterdam at first and now residing in Rotterdam. She's been doing standup comedy for some time now, a regular face and organiser on the open mic scene, yet until recently had never tried improv before. Faced with little options of things to do during the lockdown, she decided to enrol on Nicole Mischler's online improv Yes And course and shortly after her first lesson, she had these words to say of her experience:
Well, I took a big step this week - I finally faced my fear and joined an improv class....𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵!
I’ve never been good at doing things on the spot - I prepare and prepare and prepare. I don’t get scared doing my (heavily rehearsed) stand up on stage, but as soon as an audience member interacts (‘hey, you’re not in my script!’), I freeze up.
But there’s nothing like a global pandemic to push you into seizing the moment
I joined the @easylaughsamsterdam online ‘yes and’ course, where I was a little apprehensive of what ‘online improv’ would look like. But @mischler.nicole soon made any online awkwardness melt away. In fact, I can’t believe how well it worked as an online format!
I had a huge stupid grin on my face for the rest of the night - as lockdown tightens up, this was an activity that was incredibly fun and 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨.
I’m excited to learn more and do more and continue to get to know my new classmates better. Huge thanks to Easylaughs and Nicole, and this is my big ol’ recommendation for anyone who’s looking for a fun online course to do at home! 🤩
