Have you ever wanted to try standup comedy, but don’t know where to begin? Do you have trouble with public speaking and want to get past that? Do you have little or no performance experience whatsoever, and want to change that? Then this is the course for you! With this course we will guide you through a series of lessons in standup comedy writing and performance, culminating in a performance in front of a real-life audience. We will help you prepare your comedic writing with the stage in mind, as well as develop transferable writing techniques and communication skills that will be relevant in any profession. You will be taught skills which will not only be useful for your set, but for life in general. Our coaches are active experienced performers. They are well versed in the profession of standup comedy, so they know all you need to know on how to transition from being a beginner to taking it professional. They have the insight into what it takes, and what can help to make that jump. You’ll take 8 classes, each 2-hours, one per week. We teach both the basic theory and the practice of stand-up comedy, from the desk work to the stage. Our lessons include an interactive mix of lectures, performance practice, workshopping, writing exercises and feedback. Topics covered include: • Basic performance, delivery techniques, both verbally and physically. • Writing techniques as a way of life, capturing yourself at your best. • Self-discovery about how you are perceived by others and what you can do with this information while discovering your authentic voice. • Intensive editing, understanding exactly what is necessary and what is not. • Exploring different styles and techniques outside your comfort zone. • Dealing with the unexpected in an effortless way. • Performing your set at your graduation show on July 5th!! • A video of your performance at the graduation show. Peter started performing in London about a million years ago. He came to the Netherlands and helped form easylaughs, went back to London for a little bit but now he is back where his heart belongs. He has taught all over Europe and enjoys teaching improv at all levels, with a heavy focus on narrative and genres, and stand-up. He is an improviser, stand-up, storyteller, movie nerd and very basic guitarist.
